George Canyon

November 16th, 2016 | Comments off

Canadian country music legend George Canyon is continually melding his love of family with his passion for music; his integrity and dedication to his family are reflected through the songs he writes and the stories he tells. A multi-JUNO Award/PLATINUM selling artist, Canyon’s latest album I Got This finds him back in the saddle; a culmination of 2 years of writing, and working with incredibly talented writers, producers and musicians. Showing no signs of slowing down, Canyon is hot on the heels of a 2016 cross Canada tour, “Jekyll and Nothing to Hide”, which has audiences rockin’ coast-to-coast to his entertaining and laid-back vibe, “I wanted to create a record that was fun to play, and exciting for the fans to listen to.  It’s been a while since I’ve had an album of new original songs, and these songs put a smile on my face”.

Family being his first priority, Canyon, a man of Faith, abandoned his musical aspirations years ago to work as a bylaw officer in order to support his family. His wife, Jennifer, urged him to keep writing songs and performing, however George felt that it was no longer practical, and put music on the back burner. In 2004, Jennifer persuaded him to audition for U.S.A Network’s “Nashville Star”- an internationally televised performance competition. Canyon competed and wowed audiences worldwide with his undeniable talent, and from that point – there was no turning back.

With a history of industry accolades, achievements and sustained success, I Got This marks Canyon’s eleventh full-length release in a career that spans nearly two decades and includes his GOLD-certified albums “One Good Friend”, Classics, Somebody Wrote Love and the Richard Marx produced Better Be Home Soon. With nearly 400,000 albums sold worldwide, multiple major acting roles on television, and the 2015 launch of his ECMA and CCMA nominated radio show “Down East Country with George Canyon”, the singer-songwriter has cemented his status as a bona fide multi-faceted artist and performer. Canyon says, “I am so proud of this entire album – each song has its own special meaning to me, but there is one song that I can confidently list as my favourite – that song is ‘Some Horses’.  I heard this song over a year ago and immediately held it for this record.  When I play the song all I think about is our daughter Madison, who just turned 16, and like her mom, loves horses and is a Champion Cutting Horse rider”.

A Nova Scotia native, Canyon was recently inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame and has been widely decorated with a number of accolades including multiple CCMA and ECMA Awards in addition to his multiple JUNO Award wins. As the national spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and a vocal advocate and supporter of the Canadian Military, Canyon was also presented with the CCMA “Humanitarian of the Year” Award in recognition of his philanthropic endeavours with both organizations.
